Bridgeport, California
The town of Bridgeport is centered within the valley of the same name, along the East Walker River. To the west lie some very rugged peaks of the Sierra Nevada, including the Sawtooth Range, Mt. Dunderberg, and th
e northern boundary of Yosemite National Park. On the east is found the more arid, sagebrush-covered hills where numerous mining towns and camps existed during the mid-19th century.
The Bridgeport Valley itself, while known for its extremely cold temperatures during winter months, is actually quite
lush and relatively warm from spring through fall. The town is surrounded by many square miles of pastureland, where a good deaql of livestock may be found grazing. At the lower end of the valley is Bridgeport Lake, a reservior of the East Walker River
Irrigation District, supplying the lands many miles downstream in the state of Nevada.
